Fan X Fan Show: 'The Flash' 213 - "Welcome to Earth-2"
OH MY GOD THE MULTIVERSE IS AMAZING!!! Team Flash has a plan to track stop Zoom once and for all, and that path is littered with the best easter eggs ever. We're talking Kryptonian Women, Super Friends on speed dial, jewelry from Future Legions, AND A FLASH OF TV'S PAST!!! Too much of a description would kill the vibe (see what I did there) so to avoid spoilers, I'll leave the rest inside the episode. Trav and I also talk the goings on of the Superbowl, and why you shouldn't take Junior to go see 'Deadpool' this weekend. And if you're a pro wrestling buff, we talk about THAT OTHER show we do weekly! Enjoy!

South Kongress Podcast, Episode #1 - Mike O'Hara
Some people jump over obstacles. Others finesse their way around obstacles. Then there are those of us who pick up said obstacles, tear them in half, eat some now and finish the rest later. He's hard work personified, in more than one walk of life. We take some time to figure out how Mike O'Hara went from invisible on the sidelines to running one of the top independent gyms in Austin.

Drake is Tony Montana, Future is also Tony Montana - "Me and My Friends" talk "WATTBA" (Part 2)
Author's Note - this is not an "out of 10 review" because everyone does that now. Part 1 of the conversation can be found here.
"Digital Dash" - prod. by Metro Boomin, Southside
Chris Little: Future Floated, Drake was cool, production was fire.
Cameron Hawkins: Yeah, the production was crazy
Miles Burton: Metro Boomin really letting people know he's still here! Future tap danced all over that damn song man, that shit really make me wanna be fake kinda drunk in the bar dabbing, or hitting that DJ Esco. Also, Drake is on the song too. Cool. Metro Boomin is important. I like that Young Drizzy threw a tiny jab at the (Dream) chasers in it though. "I might take Quentin (Miller) to follies." That's a massage spot in Philly.
CH: "You hate your life just be honest!"
MB: "Massage" in air quotes.
"Big Rings" - prod. by Metro Boomin
CL: That chorus is STOOOPID. The Future shot was on there.
CH: "You just a battle rapper"
CL: "You just a battle rapper/ I'm an official Trapper!"
MB: "Big Rings" is the second best song on the tape. 'Nuff said."
CH: I think the production is great, again.
"Live From the Gutter"- prod. by Boi-1da, Metro Boomin
CL: I didn't like this song. Production was smooth though.
CH: I don't like it's placement.
MB: Future danced all over this once again. This shit make me want to mask up and go get them niggas. However, I don't have any beefs or even know who "them niggas" is. Also, I live in South Texas. Too hot for masks man.
CL: Should have been in the middle, or close to the end.
CH: It's solid, but Drake being live from anyone's gutter is laughable any time.
MB: It does break the hype music transistion; it shouldn't have been right after "Big Rings".
CL: "Gotta kill witnesses cause Miles' beard sticking out" *Hov voice*
MB: Drake probably picked up Sean from the gutter when they were getting closer before Ashley was rolling at a party and kissed Sean. Remember, they were getting back cool and Spinner was jealous? Word to Degrassi Street.
CL: (texts 5 yelling face emojis)
"Diamonds Dancing" - prod. by Metro boomin, Allen Ritter, Frank Dukes, Mikey Rodrigues
CL: No need to ask about #4 Cameron Hawkins.
MB: Yeah Cam, skip that. I can't be too hype at work right now. If it's not the best song of 2015 TO ME, it's a close second.
CH: Lol go to!
CL: "Scholarship" is fire
(I post a screenshot of "Diamonds Dancing" in the group)
CL: DAMNIT CAM I TRIED TO SKIP IT (3 yelling face emojis)
MB: Metro Boomin is very important.
CH: So, ok.
CL: Future set the tone off right.
MB: VERY IMPORTANT
CH: Future FLOATED
MB: Now I have to listen to the whole song twice
CH: And really. REALLY? Drake had an outro that lasted 3 minutes. Being apex selfish hurt Drake. Being "Perfect Cell" Drake.
CL: I appreciate hurt Drake.
MB: "YOU KNOOOOW/WHAT I NEED/FROM YOOOU, WHEN I GET HOOOME!!!/ YOU BETTER NOT BE ON THE PHONE/ TALKIN' UP A STORM LIKE YOU USUALLY DO/ TALKIN' TO YOUR FRIENDS LIKE YOU USUALLY DO/ TELLIN' THEM I NEVER SPEND TIME WITH YOU/ IT'S HARD TO FIND THE TIME, WE BEEN/ Sippin' on Dom Perignon for no reason... Poppin tags, upper echelon for no reason...
CH: Being "how can your life be worth living if I'm not in it" Drake. Oh, Chris, it's him at his best.
CL: He makes singing to these women great. Perfect description Cameron Hawkins.
CH: Like, if "Hotline Blng was on Cinemax instead of TBS, it would be "Diamonds Dancing".
MB: Cam, don't disrespect. No shde to my youngin, but "Hotline Bling" is so fucking terrible.
CH: It's forgiveable... "(Diamonds Dancing) is... He went full James Caan in "Casino" on that.
"Scholarships" - prod. by Metro Boomin
CL: "I rock Kentucky Blue, on these heauxs"
CH: So here - why not just put this on the tape twice and toss "Live From the Gutter" in the waste bin???? And the flexibility - THEY CAN SAY THE SAME HOOK AND BOTH KILL IT MAN. "Metro Boom make it BOOM, on these heauxs!"
"Plastic Bag" - prod. by Neenyo
MB: really the worst song.
CH: My thing - I know it's not for ME.
CL: It's trash.
CH: Cuz strip clubs don't make sense to me.
MB: Cam, it might be because I don't like the shake joint.
"I'm the Plug" - prod. by Southside
MB: REALLY I'M THE PLUG!!!
CH: So like, this is the Drake I want rapping.
CL: Drake's verse on this song was great.
CH: Big Sean supa dupa flow drake. What beat is is a riff of? Off DS2?
"Change Locations" - prod. by Noel
(name excluded): I don't have enough money to fully appreciate "Change Locations" but i like the song a lot, EXCEPT how high and nasal Drake's voice is during the "Me and my friends" part. "SIXTY naked bitches no exaggeration"?! Nigga, I've only had two a couple times. This nigga had thirty times more bitches than me at one time, no exaggeration.
CH: Buying bottles still silly though.
"Jumpman" - prod. by Metro Boomin
MB: the second best song if we're in the club. Second or third worst outside the club.
"Jersey" - prod. by Metro Boomin, Southside
CH: AGAIN - just put this on twice and get "Live from the Gutter" outta here
MB: Future really making wonderful music. "Extendo Extendo Extendo, the (clip) gotta hold like thirty!... YOU DO WHAT YOU WANT WHEN YOU POPPIN'!"
CH: This really could have been on "DS2".
"30 for 30 Freestyle" - prod. by 40
CH: Uh... Did Drake really say there's a conspiracy to get him out the paint?
MB: He really said that. By the old niggas though, not his peers. I don't think it's true, but he was fucking rapping on that shit.

Icon vs. Guy who's wrestled a long time - Sting vs. Triple H
I have two buddies that try to tell me how great Sting is, like I didn't see Sting matches in the 1990s. The best work Sting ever did was standing in the rafters and pointing his bat at the nWo. Which isn't a shot - that shit was fire. But some would have you believe Sting's last match was against Ric Flair in 2001 on the final Nitro. Not so fast yo. Sting was half stepping in TNA collecting big checks all through my adult life. And Triple H - he's cool. His in ring work since Wrestlemania 28 has been good to great just about any time out. So what if i can't stand the guy on my television? They've had 6 months plus to plan this match out, and both are protective over their legacies/ portrayals, so I think this match will be a welcome surprise. And well... Sting HAS to win, right? Triple H is over big footing guys he shouldn't, right? RIGHT? Who the hell knows. I'll roll with the special attraction, and not the guy I'll be changing the channel on for the foreseeable future. Also, for you two, 50 and Josh... Sting isn't trash. Often. Winner - Sting

Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Title - Daniel Bryan v. Stardust v. R-Truth v. Dolph Ziggler v. Dean Ambrose v. Luke Harper v. Wade Barrett (c)
It's been ten years since the first "Money in the Bank" ladder match. The day I declared "SHELTON BENJAMIN IS THE FUTURE!!!" and was proven very, very wrong. When you have a billion guys on the roster, and you don't want to downgrade all of them, this is what happens. For reference, I've been on the Cody Rhodes bandwagon since Legacy, even before. I've written words on words about just how great Daniel Bryan is. Ambrose has a great upside as long as he isn't fighting in the gimmick of the week match against Bray Wyatt. R-Truth, for all the, uh... acting... he does, gets credit for maintaining excellent physical condition, and maintaining a damn job all these years. Luke Harper was hot toward the end of the Wyatt family run, has an amazing look, and looks like he can WIN A DAMN FIGHT. Ziggler is a victim of his own bravado, but deserves more than he's been given, and Barret? The champ? HE AND THE NEXUS SHOULD HAVE BEATEN JOHN CENA BACK IN THE DAY AND I STILL FEEL A WAY ABOUT THAT BULLSH... sorry, got in my feelings a bit there. For reasons I'll detail a bit later, I see Bryan winning this match, and returning a certain level of prestige to the IC Strap. I think Stardust and Ziggler will have the standout performances though. Winner - Daniel Bryan

Singles Match for the United States Title - John Cena v. Rusev (c) w/ Lana
I haven't been this excited for a John Cena match in 3 full years (when the Rock rightfully whooped that ass in Miami) and I'm genuinely hyped for this. Rusev is great. He's tough, he can move, his kicks look like they hurt, his promos seem genuine, he's imposing, even his "Russian Nationalist" gimmick seems believable because the disdain with which he speaks about America... he's not out there telling any old lie! He's coming from a place of truth, just real enough to piss people off. He hasn't been running through the competition like Goldberg's streak, but he takes the very best shots from his opponents, survives it, and finds ways to win. He's just great to watch. Lana, also, doesn't hurt the cause. She's a great mouthpiece for him, with her tone, and inflections, and oh so tiny business suits. John Cena is - what do you even have to say? He puts on great performances in big matches. His promos leading up to this have been serious in tone, WHICH IS ALL WE'VE EVER ASKED THE GUY TO DO! The first match they had was just excellent, so I feel they'll go above and beyond here to give the people a show. Cena kicks off his "award tour" by regaining the first singles title he put on his mantle, minus the played out spinner gimmick. Winner - John Cena

America is trash, this is my lady, I'll mess you up. Cool?
Now, I'm predicting both Bryan and Cena to win their matches, and titles, largely because of my main event prediction. WWE is going to transition those titles from afterthoughts to the big deals, because of this...

Singles Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Title - Roman Reigns v. Brock Lesnar (c) w/ Paul Heyman
Man, I see an ass kicking on the horizon. I mean a shellacking. Roman Reigns is going to catch the biggest fade of anyone ever. I'm saying this, and I LIKE Roman Reigns. Other than his trash ass promos, I like him in the ring. I've gotten over the idea that a guy needs 50 moves to be great. Just Look at Lesnar. He hit John Cena with the same move 14 times at Summerslam, and no one with a shred of credibility complained! Even if die-hard fans were more behind Reigns, Brock Lesnar is simply at the peak of his powers. I never took issue with him showing up part time. I watch Boxing. I watch MMA. I watch seasonal sports. Seasonal shows. There's something to be said for having to wait to see things. Netflix binging is great, but the anticipation that comes from delayed satisfaction... there's no replacing that. So now that Brock has signed up for 3 more years, if he only shows up 12 times a year, I have no problem there, and I'm sure I'll enjoy each and every time. My prediction is that Reigns is booed out the building, defeated handily, and Brock leaves Wrestlemania the best part time champ you could ask for. The IC and US titles become big deals, with the roster chasing Cena/ Bryan, and those titles headlining the house shows/ TV events other than the ones Brock appears on. Top to bottom, it's a pretty good card, and this year sure looks like a win for the WWE. Winner - Brock Lesnar

Time to play button the game
It's been awhile, but now seems like a fitting time to pick the keys back up and do a little writing. It's just after SXSW, and days before the Texas Relays, so that means... to quote a certain wife of a certain video game music producer... it's WRESTLEMANIA! This year's a bit different, as it's the first time we won't be attending the live event in a few years. But, this gives me a better opportunity to watch this like I watch the rest of the shows. I tend to get a bit lost, being around all those people, taking in all the different sights and sounds, so this year will feel a bit closer to home. So, after all this prefacing, let's cover the card match by match, and try to get a feel for the winners, losers, and happenings of this year's event.

Fatal 4 Way for the WWE Tag Team Titles - New Day (Big E/ Kofi Kingston) v. Los Matadores v. The Usos v. Cesaro/Kidd (c)
If nothing else, this is a great way to put some energy and athleticism into a show that, on the surface, seems to lack it. All four of these teams are athletic, with the champs and New Day both having a nice mix of speed and power. As competitors, I'm a fan of all four teams, even though I dislike the Los Matadores gimmick, and LOATHE the New Day gimmick (side note: white folks chant "new day" ironically.... it's that bad) to the point that I can't actually CHEER the guys on. The Usos are, to me, the "it" team right now. The can move, their offense is believable, and they seem to really shine in pay-per-view matches. I'd much prefer a standard tag match between them and the champs. Tyson Kidd should be applauded for accepting a long term demotion to NXT, making guys look great, and making the most of his return to the main roster. I hate seeing Cesaro slotted as anything other than a top tier singles guy, but he's held his own as what I'd call the complimentary piece of that team. I'm picking the champs to retain in a very fast paced, hard hitting match. Winners - Cesaro/Kidd

"Just wait on it!" - Migos
Randy Orton v. Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins is making the most of his opportunity as a major player in WWE. Cliche as it sounds, I think it's the biggest compliment you can bestow on a guy. He went from (by design) the third wheel in the hottest act in wrestling, to the top in ring heel in wresting almost seamlessly. What more impressive is that he did this during the transition to long, drawn out promos that people would groan at in chat rooms and Facebook groups. He was an indy darling, a minor league all star, and is now in position to have a major role in the world's largest wrestling promotion for years to come. He put on size, adapted to WWE's in ring style, but kept enough on his athleticism to still stand out. You believe he's a snake, but that if need be, he can hit you in the mouth hard enough to make it count. Plus, a Jon Stewart co-sign doesn't hurt. In many ways, he's what Randy Orton SHOULD be. That's not to say Orton is bad by any stretch. But I don't look at this match as Orton being the big star Rollins gets to test himself against. This is the Rollins show, and he's almost at that level where, win or lose, he's going to come out looking stronger than before. These two are so good in the ring, you know you'll see magic happen, hopefully it isn't lost in the shuffle of all the higher profile matches. Going into a Mania match with the MITB briefcase, and the uncertainty in the main event (we'll get there) I see Rollins losing clean to a kind of returning conqueror Orton. Winner - Randy Orton

AJ Lee/ Paige v. The Bellas
I don't watch 'Total Divas'. I watch PLENTY of terrible "unscripted" things, but that isn't one of them. But I can say this - as the Bellas have gotten more famous, they've gotten SO MUCH BETTER in the ring. Whether it's the new found attention, or the pressure of the NXT Women breathing down their necks, they've taken their craft way more seriously than before. AJ and Paige? You don't have to question their skill set at all. With the show being as long as it is, you hope they get enough time to really go out and show what they can do. AJ jumped on twitter and told her bosses the truth about the world, and in my experience, that very rarely produces the desired results, so it's tough to pick her team to win. However, eventually the Bellas have to lose, right? They always seem to come out on top if for no other reason than to be more annoying the next go round. So perhaps, to show there's no hard feelings (yeah right) the better team gets the nod. Winners - AJ Lee/Paige

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
Cesaro won last year, and he's on the pre-show this year. This won't get many words from me. I hope Mark Henry eliminates a bunch of guys, Axel does something hilarious, and the guy I'm picking to win has a good year after he wins. Winner - Damien Sandow (Mizdow)

Bray Wyatt v. The Undertaker
I was in the building when Taker lost his first Wrestlemania match. It was the largest crowd of silent people this side of Mecca. I was pretty sure it was the very last time we'd be seeing the Undertaker in a WWE ring, and I was fine with the send off. Now, he's back. It all just seems so forced. I dig Bryatt Wyatt as a character, as an athlete, as a performer. He moves great for his size, has a great look, and just seems like he could mess you up if need be. It's certainly a natural fit for the psychedelic cult preacher to want to take down the local immortal Specter. It's just about a year too late. There's really no reason to have the Undertaker lose this match, as starting a negative streak for a guy that is a special attraction lessens the special. And Bray can talk that hot shit the very next day and have his mojo back. Have to go with the Dead Man here. Winner - The Undertaker

If That's It, Thanks for Everything - Thoughts on the WWE Career of Daniel Bryan
When they put "indefinitely" next to your name, it's almost always a bad thing. Typically, you think suspensions, meaning that ass may never be back. So when I heard Daniel Bryan was out "indefinitely", a myriad of emotions came over me. There was fear, there was sadness, then there was relief. I don't know which one is going to hold on the longest for me, let alone what he's thinking, but it's all at once scary, heart wrenching, and well, kind of ok.
Bryan Danielson was one of the last of the "indy darlings", a guy that made a name for himself outside of one of the large, nationally televised wrestling promotions. Trained by WWE Legend Shawn Michaels (San Antonio stand up) he was a guy that was under 6 feet tall, less than 220 pounds. We all know guys of that same build in real life that can hold their own in a fight, but wrestling promoters were always trying to make stars out of the guys that "turn heads at airports." Danielson wowed crowds with hard hitting moves and submission holds, to where his size was a n afterthought during and after his matches. He could also talk a good game, never boring or stale. HE was someone you could make money off of.
A few years back, he signed a deal with WWE, in an effort to make some real money before his career was over. He was on the inaugural season of "NXT", a quasi-reality show where new wrestlers would compete in matches and competitions in front of the same crowds the main roster was up against. Made to lose match after match, Daniel Bryan (his "new name") still stood out for his athleticism, regardless of the lines Michael Cole was fed to make him look unimpressive. Mike "The Miz" Mizanin, of MTV fame, notably asked "what have you ever done?" time and time again, since all of Bryan's notoriety had been built outside of the WWE. William Regal boldly stated that Bryan was "better" than Miz, which didn't seem to be the story they were pushing.
After the NXT experience, the competitors on that show were dubbed "The Nexus", a kind of "New Blood meets NWO" stable for those that suffered through the late stages of WCW. They famously kicked the crap out of John Cena, CM Punk, and whoever else was at ringside. Bryan was actually fired for choking out a ring announcer with his own tie. In a world of scripted violence, this was deemed to harsh an act. He was shortly brought back into the WWE mix, and put on some very good matches in the middle of the card.
In the summer of 2011, he won a "Money in the Bank" contract, which gives the winner a title match at the time of his choosing. He exercised this option later in the year to pin an already downed Big Show, and became World Heavyweight Champion. Much in the vein of Rey Mysterio years earlier, he wasn't booked to win his matches outright, but by hook, crook, or disqualification, he had been expanding his character, becoming increasing frustrated with the fan base, and chanting "NO!" at every turn. It caught on, and more and more people would chant along with him. This is around the same time my fantastic girlfriend got me the birthday gift of a lifetime - Tickets to Wrestlemania 28 in Miami, FL. I was going to get to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wrestle for the first time ever, and Daniel Bryan would also be defending his Wold Heavyweight Championship against Sheamus.
Daniel Bryan lost the match in 12 seconds. 12. 1-2.
It was shocking, and frustrating, to the point the crowd flooded the arena with boos. The Wrestlemania crowd is different, in that they want the best PERFORMERS TO BE ABLE TO PERFORM. They saw this as a real slight to a hard worker, and the next night, made it clear to WWE this wouldn't be accepted. At Monday Night Raw, the following night, we were in unison with the other spectators chanting "YES!" or "NO!" depending on the situation, and when Bryan came out for his match, the entire place was into his every move, word, hell, breath, as we voiced our total support for him. This would continue on, sometimes a murmur, other times full on cult like chants, depending on the venue.
Over the next two years, Bryan's matches got better, his mic work got better, and his fan base expanded. Memorable matches with CM Punk, his comedic skits with Kane, all did more to solidify him a player in the big leagues, regardless of his size and perceived "it" factor. At Summerslam 2013, Daniel Bryan beat an ailing John Cena for the WWE Title in a fantastic match. I had friends over, and we all watched the match intently, hoping to see the underdog come out on top, and we were all jumping and high-fiving at the matches conclusion. The moment was short lived, as the same "money in the bank" stipulation Bryan rode to his first title was used against him. Randy Orton, with a huge assist from COO Triple H, beat Bryan for the title. Over the next few months, we were treated to (terrible, boring, pointless) skits about why Bryan wasn't a fit champion. It was his hair, his beard, his height, his weight, and how he would never be more than a "B+ player" (a play of a term used against Triple H years back).
What we did still get were fantastic matches from him. Whether it was going against Orton, The Shield, or The Wyatt family, it was the same in your face, hard hitting style fans had grown accustomed to. At the 2014 Royal Rumble (where we had one of our super fun Rumble night contests) Bryan lost a really good match to cult leader Bray Wyatt. People expected him to participate in the actual Rumble match, but he never showed. This caused even more outrage, as the match considered most important (outside of 'mania) by most didn't have one of the biggest starts in the company. This set the wheels in motion for Bryan to finally face Triple H one on one at Wrestlemania, for the chance to participate in the WWE World Heavyweight Title match later that night. Bryan and Triple H had a GREAT match that Bryan ultimately won, and he would go on to defeat Randy Orton and Batista later that night to earn the title. It was great being there live, as it was the culmination of the last two years, going from disrespect to the ultimate accolade.
It's hard to say exactly when Daniel Bryan hurt his neck. Whether it was prior to Mania, or after, he wrestled Kane at the following pay per view, then was "injured" shortly after. He underwent neck surgery, and was expected to be out no more than two months. Between Mania and surgery, he had married his girlfriend, WWE Diva Brie Bella, and lost his father. The gamut of emotions had definitely been ran, followed by maybe the biggest career obstacle he had faced. At the June "Money in the Bank" pay per view, he came out and announced that he may need an additional surgery, which gave people plenty of reason to doubt when he'd be back. Over the last few days, it was reported he'd be written out of story lines as no return date had been set.
You never want to see someone good at their job forced out. It goes against the principles of hard word. The guy does whatever he can to defy the odds, makes it to the very top, then can't continue. You feel for him. Then you think of the Chris Benoits and Eddie Guerreros of the world, guy who, if you could control it, would have walked away well before tragedy struck. Who knows, he may be back later this year as good as ever. But then you look at guys like Edge, who was forced out due to injury, but is stable, seems happy, and is going to be able to tell his children about the great things he did. All in all, if we never get to see Daniel Bryan in the ring again, his story is one to appreciate, his matches are to be studied and applauded, and his path, hard as it was, is hopefully one people will follow.

Shane Falco, Aunt Jemima, and the San Francisco Chinamen: A Few Words from a Lifelong Washington Redskins Fan.
I grew up in the great state of Texas, specifically San Antonio (HOME OF THESE GUYS). I moved there when I was 11, and my immediate family still lives there. But I'm originally from Camp Springs, Md, which is located just outside of Washington, DC. For this reason, and a few others, I've been a lifelong Washington Redskins fan. I was enamored with the guys in old lady dresses and pig snouts, loved singing the fight song with my mom, and was always amazed at how damn fast Darrell Green was! The Redskins were an institution, a way of life, a gold standard. As a kid, I never really thought about the name, but I also didn't think about the absurdity of the name 'Indians' either, because I was a kid. So yesterday, various sources reported that the Washington Redskins trademark would not be renewed, due to a strong political movement hoping to force a name change for the franchise. As a near 30 year old man who has never even considered an allegiance to another pro football team... I really have no problem with it. AT ALL.
I've heard very, very strong opinions on the subject. "Why now?" seems to be the prevailing opinion. People are ranting about the new found sensitivity on America, how we seem to cower and concede whenever someone deems something offensive. In this case, my response is "ok, so?". There is nothing so damn important about the Redskins name that it can't be changed to something less derogatory. It's not as if player salaries drop, it's not that you won't be able to buy new team gear, hell, it's not like you won't be able to wear your old gear! But what's so wrong about adjusting? It's really similar to reparations. Now, I'm in no way saying the name of a sports team holds a candle to slavery, it's reach or it's ramifications. What I'm saying is, one of the major problems people have with reparations is that in admitting wrongdoing, you worry about opening up the floodgates to having to PAY WHAT YOU MAY ACTUALLY OWE. People don't want to feel responsible for past wrongdoing, and want you to act as if everyone started with equal footing. Any acknowledgement that that idea is silly puts people in a position to have to come up with solutions, and they'd rather just ignore valid complaints. Nothing new here, but it's the prevailing truth in America.
As a supporter of a franchise that's only had FLASHES of success since the mid nineties (like these guys, only more honest about it) I for one am ok with a name change. What have the Redskins been since like '95? Average? Below average? This isn't the Pittsburgh Steelers or New England Patriots calling audible, it's a franchise with more losing seasons than 10 win seasons since i was a kid. I love the football team representative of the DC/Maryland/Virginia Area (DMV for those in the know)regardless of their name. Shane Falco? Big fan of that guy. Also the Art Monks and the Mark Rypiens, Even the Michael Westbrooks and Stephen Davis's, right on down to the RGIII's and the Brian Orakpos (hook 'em) on the team. I'm not tied to any name that people may rightfully deem offensive. Wouldn't affect my fandom in the slightest.
Politicians from all over the country all of a sudden made this their focus, this being the great cause they chose to champion. It'll be interesting to see if people grill them on other things they may deem wrong, and if they fight so vehemently against those things. Am i going to have to switch to log cabin, because well, that damn Aunt Jemima looks like a mamm... nevermind. In the meantime, hail to the Re... whatever. Fight for all DC!

Maybe You Just Think Gay People are "Icky" - Michael Sam Talk in the Barber Shop
I typically get a haircut every week. Maybe it's vanity, maybe is insecurity, maybe it's routine, but every Wednesday morning before work, There are two barbers in the shop I go to - they attend church together, and have a strict "no cursing" policy in place. The TV is typically on one of three Channels - whatever network the Super funny lady that preaches with the short cut is on, Headline News because Robin Meade is fine, or ESPN. The talk is typically tame - it's sports, it's TV/ movies, and at time, relationships. This all came to a head last week, when one of the barbers asked if I had seen Michael Sam kiss his boyfriend after he was drafted. Sometimes, by the way someone asks a question, you already have a feel for their opinion. I told him flat out, "it was fine." He paused, then asked why I thought it was ok. I told him that it's just a guy kissing a guy, happens every day, the only difference is it happened on TV. that's it. What that led to was a legit hour of debate, ranging from religion to decency to children. It was uncomfortable, frustrating, and at times enlightening.
His main point was that homosexuality was, in his words, and abomination. It's unnatural for two men or two women to want to be together, because it goes against our natural instinct to procreate. You know what? That's fine. But that also makes it sound like the rest of us are having kids. I asked him what that says about celibate people that choose not to have sex, or even people that have recreational sex, but choose not to reproduce. His response? That it's a personal choice, and it's different from homosexuality. I didn't really see the point, but that's fine, I guess. He said our bodies weren't meant to for homosexuality, and that it's clear in our design that's not what was intended. It's interesting - the two of us being tattooed, pork eating Americans in Polo and Nike shoes discussing the things our bodies were intended for. But again, it's not that his point weren't valid, just not all encompassing.
This went back and forth for awhile, until we got to what I think was the real crux of the issue (a running theme of my writing in particular) communication. He proceeded to tell me a story about his youngest son, and how a run in with a classmate caused him confusion. His son was trying to physically explain one of his classmates. "Dad, she has long hair!" he kept telling him, and his father couldn't find out why he kept saying that till he dropped him off one day and saw what he was trying to rationalize - it was a boy who wore his fair long in the vein of a girl that age. Circling back to the Michael Sam kiss, he made it clear that things like this confuse children, and on top of that, is hard for a parent to explain to a child without causing some type of damage. Here's where it went a bit off the rails: He said that homosexuality was caused by a child experiencing sex before they are mature enough to process it mentally. Now, there will always be a divide between people who think homosexuality is learned, and the people who think homosexuality is genetic, or inherent. But to say that some type of sexual misconduct, or sexual episode is what triggers it, to me, isn't only fantastic, but very unsympathetic and callous.
We talked a bit about religion, because we both identify as Christians. Now (because my mother might read this) I do consider myself a Christian, but I can also say the exploits of heterosexual men and women that identify the same way are one of the reasons I don't frequent church. But church and I are for another time. He asked if I believe God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, and i said sure, because some of that stuff in the Bible happened probably maybe. But it's awful convenient to condemn homosexuality, and look at other things considered indiscretions as "Every day life". Again, we looped around to sports. I asked him if Michael Sam is wrong, is Dwight Howard wrong? Dwight Howard is a week older than me. He's way taller, way richer, and way cornier, but that's all irrelevant. In the same time it took me to make enough money to get cheese on my whopper, Dwight has found the time to have 8 kids by 6 women. Read that back one time. Then read Dwight Howard's Growing List of Baby Mamas. GREATNESS. I'm not here to throw rocks at the dude, but if the level of outrage toward fornication doesn't come anywhere near the level of outrage toward homosexuality, we're not only saying one sin is worse than another, but also sexual sins, between consenting adults, have varying levels of "evil" as it goes. Now, he didn't know about Dwight Howard's "Starting 5 with a 6th man" squad, because things like that aren't publicized. The same things that are vilified become publicized, because it puts eyes on the screen.
Where things kind of hit a stopping point was where the spread of homosexuality came into play. I told him that one in ten people being gay, abomination or not, is not enough to destroy the institution of homosexuality. Then he used the dreaded "C" word. I'm not one to talk about cancer lightly, as it affects way too many people to joke about it. But if homosexuality was cancer, we'd have died out A LONG TIME AGO. Boys have been liking boy mouth, and girls girl mouth, for centuries. It can't all of a sudden ruin procreation. Why? Because numbers, that's why. I don't really see myself losing interest in women, because LOOK AT WOMEN. That appeal isn't all of a sudden going to go away because I see man x and man y out on a date. That's them. So things were said, nothing was really resolved, and we left out on good terms. We aren't enemies, just men at different points in life with different responsibilities. But, to be honest, your views on homosexuality may be long, drawn out, may inspire debate and discourse, but well... sometimes it's easier to say "gays give me the heebie jeebies" and be done with it. Honesty is usually respected, if not enjoyed.

2014 NFL Mock Draft - Power Rangers Edition
With the NFL Draft looming, and teams hoping that adding a few pieces will help them find success, let's go the top ten of the first round using a group of young , athletic, hungry talents - The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
1) The Houston Texas select... Jason Lee Scott, QB, Red Ranger
I know, I know, how could they pass on Tommy? Here's how - this is a team that already has an established identity. JJ Watt is the face of this franchise, and rightfully so. He's menacing, he's athletic, he's charitable. They don't need someone to step in and take charge of the team. Ask any real Texans fan - they didn't want Matt Schaub to go out and throw for 600 yards a game - they wanted him to go out there, not mess up, and never be intimidated. That's Jason. Remember when he went to Goldar's dimension WITH NO MORPHER and fought dude for Tommy's candle? Intangibles man. The Texans need a guy that that knows where he fits in, and has no trouble deferring to teammates if need be.
2) The St. Louis Rams select... Rocky Cardenas, WR, Red Ranger

When the Rams took Tavon Austin in the 1st Round last year, it was a no brainer. Speed guy with great hands and the ability to make plays in space. But without a strong compliment on the outside you limit what you can get out of your slot. Rocky replaced Jason as the Red Ranger in Season 2, and while while a practitioner of martial arts, he was probably the most physically active outside of training, the kind or guy the Rams will need to spread the field.
3) The Jacksonville Jaguars select... Thomas "Tommy" Oliver, QB, White Ranger
It's not always about "Best available", but for the Jaguars, it is. Outside of Lil' Duval, nobody wants anything to do with this team. We don't watch them on TV. We don't go to their games. Nike was probably able to come up with that awesomely terrible outfit because no one would care. They need a face for that team, they need someone that will put butts in the seats, and will attract free agents. They need the GOAT Power Ranger, Tommy Oliver. Now, there are some risks here. Very troubled past, to the point that he was started off vandalizing his rival school's property, getting into numerous altercations with them, most notably destroying their modes of transportation. But he quickly matured, to the point that he was named team captain and starter within what seemed like months. He had the complete trust of the coach, and managed to maintain his focus with plenty of outside distractions looming. If the Jags hope to turn things around, he is the route they have to go.
4) The Cleveland Browns select... Zack Taylor, QB, Black Ranger
The Browns take Zack over any Red Ranger from "Power Rangers in Space" on, because their offensive line is THE HOTTEST OF GARBAGE. They'll need a guy to make plays with his feet till they find they put a solid group around him, and all of his "hip hop kido" training will be put to the test. His skill set diverse, his agility and speed are elite. The hardest thing will be avoiding turnovers. He's shows a propensity to fumble (all those times he couldn't quite ask Angela out) But when he's been asked to step up from his backup role, he's undefeated. Not a single loss under his watch.
5) The Oakland Raiders select... Trini Kwan, WR, Yellow Ranger
Big Target. Good Hands. No Ego. The perfect fit for a team that really, really needs to find a new identity. This isn't to say she doesn't have a mean streak - you don't get the nickname "sabre tooth tiger" for being a pushover. For all the things Matt Schaub wasn't, he could get the ball to Andre Johnson and let him make plays. This tandem should be no different. She doesn't have the strongest release from the press, but her route running is unparalleled, drawing comparisons to a young Keyshawn Johnson. This is a can't miss prospect.
6) The Atlanta Falcons select... Katherine "Kat" Hilliard, OLB, Pink Ranger
Kat's the pick here, because of her versatility. Not a pure pass rusher, not strictly run stopper, she's a hybrid that could rush from the 4-3, or drop back in a 3-4 if necessary. Just look at the tape: she has shown the ability to actually alter her anatomy to get behind the o-line and into the backfield. Also, you want to see an open field tackle. SHE CAPTURED THE FALCON ZORD. Still undersized, and raw, she made the plays against the biggest opponents. ATL has to go with "The Cat" here.
7) The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select... Aisha Campbell, OT, Yellow Ranger
She's selfless. Isn't concerned with who gets the credit, totally focused on the team task. Is a big fan of smaller creatures, a nurturer, a caretaker. This is why Aisha is the first lineman taken in the draft. She doesn't have to play dirty in order to get results. Comes fro ma solid upbringing, so solid that a necklace her grandmother made for her fought off one of Rita's hate spells. Mental toughness won't be an issue here. Focus has been a bit of a concern, with questions about shopping sprees and interest in the music business being aspirations. But, on the field, she's a rock, completely reliable and willing to contribute at any spot on the line.
8) The Minnesota Vikings select... Billy Cranston, QB, Blue Ranger
They tried Josh Freeman. Big, physical Josh Freeman, and he washed out. All the guys they went through, including Christian Ponder, were athletes of the highest regard. Sometimes, you just need a guy would can line up, analyze the defense, sit in the pocket and get the ball out. This is Cranston. A quiet kid, but always in his playbook, always practicing, always finding new ways to improve. He's the least physically gifted QB with a first round grade, but what he lacks in speed and strength, he makes up for with accuracy and attention to detail. Not being a natural athlete wasn't a hindrance to him, as he steadily improved his physique and cardiovascular health over time. He's Chad Pennington without the durability issues ( last original member to leave the team). He'd be an extension of the coach on the field (he created the damn communicators) and would work tirelessly to improve from day one.
9) The Buffalo Bills select... Adam Park, OT, Black Ranger
There's something to be said for consistency. Adam was a Mighty Morphin, Zeo, Turbo, Space, and one-off Overdrive Ranger. No matter who was in his backfield, he was able to protect and win with him. This is who you think of when you use the term "stalwart". He's the rock - he's steady, surefooted, and a winner. This is a guy you want protecting a franchise quarterback like EJ Manuel, and opening up holes for CJ Spiller. His Shaolin background speaks volumes about his feet and balance, and as a former victim and survivor of childhood bullying, this is the guy who's gonna keep your locker room honest.
10) The Detroit Lions select... Kimberly Ann Hart
Range. Can get to anywhere on the field in coverage. Rangy. She's also long, to where she doesn't always have to play through a receiver's body, but can get up there and fight for the rock. Check the tape - not afraid of the opponent, regardless of a perceived size mismatch. In a few years, just like on the show, teams are going to game plan around her. She demands the attention of the quarterback ,so much so that our projected #3 pick's worst games were all against her. Her amateur appearance in the Pan Global Games further solidifies the athlete you'll have as the last life of defense in your secondary.

Why You REALLY Watch Floyd Mayweather Fights.
(As I'm writing this, I receive a text asking if I saw what Floyd posted about his ex on instagram)
You aren't dumb. You may not have done great on your SATs, you may not have gotten into that college you wanted, you may have married your third option, and you may forget where you work every now and again. Such is life. But there are things that you KNOW. Things you see, and just understand them. You understand that if you don't put gas in your car, your car won't damn go. You may have NEVER run out of gas, but you won't risk it. You know that if you eat a bunch of crap, your body will be less than stellar. After meal guilt is a real life struggle we all go through. Then there's the underdog. We, as Americans, have this idea that we're all fighting from underneath, when, in reality, we win PLENTY. We love 'Rudy'. 'Rudy' is a cool, really fabricated movie about a small kid with big dreams. We ate that shit up. Angels in the Outfield? Where that team of PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES CHEATS TO BEAT OTHER PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES is something we accept, because Disney made it, Christopher Lloyd is one of the best crazy uncles of all time, and JP was so damn cute. But we don't REALLY like the underdog. We want to see them compete, but we all like to see greatness be great. Nobody was rooting for the damn Jazz when they were trying to dethrone Michael Jordan. In the summer Olympics, we don't ponder how well team Ukraine does in the sprint relays. WE APPRECIATE GREATNESS.
I haven't seen a close Mayweather fight since he fought Oscar De La Hoya. Let me rephrase that - I haven't seen a start to finish competitive Mayweahter fight since De La Hoya. He has outclassed, outlasted, and most importantly outpointed every man he's stood against since his ascension to the mainstream. A portion of the population would tell you they watch his fights, because they are convinced the person he's facing was capable of beating him. Nah son. Experts, which still exist in boxing, have been very clear to point out all of the reasons these fighters really didn't have A SHOT against Floyd in some cases, outside of a punchers chance. Truth told, whereas most fighters are knocked down at one point or another, I can think of two times the guy has even been STAGGERED. So people claiming they think "the other guy" can win, if they pay attention, that can't be their belief.
Michael Jordan is more than likely a jerk, and has been for a long time,
but he was so good at his craft we looked past it. We knew, KNEW, that
Mark McGwire was on that shit, but damn didn't we love a home run? So
Floyd Mayweather, the best pound for pound boxer in the world? You
watch him fight because he's the absolute best at it, so regardless of
who he fights, or what he says, you want to see greatness be great. HBO, home of many of the best things ever (go watch 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', RIGHT NOW) Created the documentary '24/7' to lead into the big Mayweather/ De La Hoya fight. To channel my inner Donald Sterling, Floyd was not the kind of guy you'd want to see your girlfriend with. He came across as a petulant child, showing off all of his riches, running down his opponents, and bragging time and time again about just how good he was. People were outraged... yeah, right. Anyone that's followed boxing has seen this personality type time and time again, just not untouchable, and in HD. Bad language, gaudy gifts, and all around arrogance aren't anything new in the world of sports, they'd just never been exposed so unabashedly.
But the real story was the turmoil. Floyd seems to come from one of the most dysfunctional families you've ever seen. Son of a contender that was never there, nephew of a champion that he looked to for support, he always seemed to be caught up in an argument, a look, or a moment in time where there was just enough discontent to make you think it would affect his fights. But they never, ever did. Regardless of his personal matters, in the ring he was always in control, and seemed to enjoy the moments in time that were just about boxing. All the arrogance was stripped away, a respect for his opponents emerged, and you were seeing the very best at what he does show you how he earned that title.
People love an underdog, but they PAY BIG MONEY to see the Juggernaut. Not on the assumption that he'll lose, but to be able to share the win, to be in on the celebration, and to experience what excellence truly is. Regardless of how much of an asshole you are, people still hold true that your hard work in life, and dedication to your craft should warrant positive results. Dedication. Hard work. Hard work. Dedication.

The South Kongress "Donald Sterling Video Running Joke" Post
If you haven't seen this, watch it, like, now. Everyone's going to be doing stories, articles, and speeches concerning this. Brian, Quincy and myself will continually update this with thoughts until it get's old. Also - this may never get old.
So... in 2014, old white guys are still legit afraid of their queens NEEDING that Black plug? Just what adult films has this guy been watching? - Cam
looks like State Farm is pulling their team sponsorship. Others following suit. - Cam
now if... apparently he refuses to rent apartments to minorities. like, wouldn't do it. also, he's still married, and his wife has been trying to get the jumpoff outta here for awhile. guess he should've listened? - Cam
Here's a list of all of the LA Clippers' sponsors. Let's see who all jumps ship. - Cam
CarMax, State Farm, and VIrgin America have all pulled their sponsorship of the Clippers. - Cam
A fake deep rapper wrote a fake deep post for gawker. People are upset, but not in the way he expected. Also - it really sucked. - Cam
Sprint pulled out too, knowingthat they need my $100 every month. Can't risk a verizon exodus!!! - Cam
The biggest scandal in all this is the NAACP once again demonstrating their incompetence by planning to give THIS man, Donald Sterling, a lifetime achievement award. For what I wonder? Blatant housing discrimination? Saying Blacks and Mexicans stink and no one wants to live next to them? This isn't the worst thing Sterling has ever done...not by a long shot. Thanks NAACP! - B Ray
- Bomani Jones just always, always gets it. - Cam
So that's it for him... banned for life, max fine, "strongly encouraged" to sell team. I pray for the first owner that is "unsure" about his daugther dating Black guys... - Cam
And BOY did everyone turn into Nat fucking Turner over the last few days! Where were y'all when dude was paying his Black GM chump change, or denying residency to minorities? But nah, I'm sleep over here. - Cam

Frat Fails and Admiral Ackbar - The Progression of Ole Miss
It could have all been so sweet. The nerd in me was HYPE! In 2010, there was a petition at the University of Mississippi (more commonly known as Ole Miss) to choose a new, more PC mascot. Why? Because the team name is the Rebels. Mississippi Rebels. In Mississippi. Rebelling against what you ask. That would be that overbearing greedy as Abraham Lincoln and his forces in the North, naturally. Now, there's a time and a place for everything, and well, Mississippi in 1936 was probably ideal in chooses such a, decisive mascot as "Colonel Reb" for your school. But in 2010, it seemed to have worn out it's welcome. A campaign was started to update the schools mascot to something, well, more awesome and less racist. The said "forget a Colonel, let's get an Admiral!" What Admiral? Only the MOST IMPORTANT ADMIRAL OF ALL TIME!
This would have been the coolest thing to happen in the history of forever! But I'm a card carrying geek like that. But truthfully, is it any more ridiculous to have the Mon Calamari (lazy naming, Lucas!) leader of the Alliance as the school mascot than a heavily stylized Col. Sanders??? Probably not, but I'm not from Mississippi, and don't make the rules out there.
But this notion being dismissed immediately lends credence to an incident that recently took place. On campus, there is a statue of James Meredith, the first Black student admitted to Ole Miss. Three members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity had the bright idea to hang a noose on the statue, and leave behind a confederate flag, just in case you didn't get the picture. This particular chapter of the frat was shut down, and the reasoning given was that this was the final straw in a long series of mistakes. That makes perfect sense, given that racially influences defamation of property typically isn't your first offense.
Now, to give credit where it's due, they got Colonel Reb the hell up outta here, and replaced him with Rebel Black Bear, (who may be from Louisiana) a much better choice. While not the leader of the most significant military fleet in a galaxy far ,far away, he's still pretty cool. Things that we feel are CLEARLY outdated and wrong can take a long time to die depending on who's in charge. But it is comforting to see that there are limits on wrongdoing, where even if crimes are committed against a single person, even certain gestures can carry harsh, necessary penalties. Here's hoping that more and more organizations take firm stands on this type of behavior. And that we get an awesome fictional character as a mascot for a major university soon (Looking at you, Maryland Teenage Mutant Ninja Terrapins!)
